The Paros City Council unanimously voted to confer their express dissatisfaction to the Ministry of Health and Social Solidarity as well as the political leadership of the *** whom they hold solely responsible for the absence of a Microbiologist at the island’s medical facility. The position has been vacant since spring due to the physician’s extended illness. It is an outrage for the permanent residents of the island, not to mention the tens of thousands of visitors, that for the duration of the tourist season this most serious issue has not been addressed. The citizens of Paros are rightfully angered by this negligence and feel they are being treated as second class citizens.
The City Council has set the following demands of the Minister who is obliged by position to look after the welfare of every last citizen of the Cyclades.
1. The position of Microbiologist must be filled immediately.
2. To accept the City Council’s proposal for the creation of incentives for the proper staffing of all of the Cycladic medical centres and to forward legislation that will insure that such remissions will be avoided in future so that the residents of all islands in the region can finally feel safe.
3. To raise the classification of the Paros Medical Centre.
If within the following weeks the position of Microbiologist is not filled, the City Council decision will be publicised via mass media of national scope and the City’s efforts will take on greater dimensions.
